FREE! Making science fun at the Science Museum

We haven't been to the Science Museum in a couple years so it was nice going back now that the kids are a little older. I found that the girls were able to appreciate some of the collection and interactive exhibits that were maybe too old for them to understand before. The Garden (an activity area in the basement with waterworks gully, light and sound stations aimed at the under 5's), the Pattern Pod (another multi-sensory area discovering patterns aimed at the under 8's) and the Bubble Show are great free activities for young scientists to get hands-on and interactive with science. However, although entry to the museum is free (...for now) unfortunately a lot of events and activities are now chargeable. From the IMAX Theatre, to the Wonder Lab gallery (a new interactive gallery which I believe has much of what was available in the previously FREE Launch Pad gallery), Discovery Motion Theatre and various flight simulators - you could easily spend a small fortune. We kept to all and every free event or activity going and the girls still enjoyed their day out but I think it'll be a nother couple of years before we go back. N.B. If you are looking for a fully immersive hands-on science experience for your little one, I would highly recommend heading to the Look Out Discovery Centre in Bracknell...definitely worth the trip down the M3...(search the tags on the right for my post following our visit there).
